Did you know that the fragility of pre-mature babies often requires the need for multiple blood transfusions, and more often than not, their lives depend on it. By donating less than an hour of your day, and a little bit of your blood, you can help to determine the difference between life and death. Donating blood is literally giving the gift of life. Each day, patients in our regions need close to 2,000 people a day to roll up their sleeves to give the gift of life. There is simply no substitute for voluntarily donated blood. Without volunteer donors, our community would not have an adequate community blood supply.
Established in 1964, New York Blood Center (NYBC) is one of the largest community-based, nonprofit blood collection and distribution organizations in the United States. Through the integrated efforts of our blood services operations, NYBC annually provides some one million blood components to nearly 200 hospitals throughout New York City, New Jersey, Hudson Valley, Long Island, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania.
NYBC remains dedicated to providing the safest, highest quality transfusion products to patients in our communities, including cancer and surgery patients, accident and burn victims, AIDS and sickle cell anemia patients, transplant recipients, hemophiliacs, and many others. NYBC also has a growing medical agenda. Our Clinical Services Program provides state-of-the-art transfusion services and highly specialized patient care procedures each year at hospitals in the tri-state area. NYBC provides lifesaving blood products and services to nearly 200 hospitals in New York, New Jersey, Long Island, the Hudson Valley, and parts of Connecticut and Pennsylvania. Our integrated recruitment, collection, and distribution operations ensure approximately 2,000 units of blood products are collected each day and distributed to more than 20 million people in New York, New Jersey and beyond.
